white [christmas]

hello and happy whatever you celebrate! i haven't posted in a few days, and i'll tell you why: i am effing exhausted. i don't know that i would be able to describe myself as a "night person," since i usually fall asleep watching a movie at about 12 pm, but i can safely say i am not now nor have ever been a morning person, and waking up at 6 am most days (or 4 am this morning, to be there at 5 am) is really taking its toll on my desire to get dressed up after coming home in the afternoon covered in cake batter. don't get me wrong, i love the job and i'll totally get used to the early rising, but at the moment i am absolutely wiped out.

however, a couple reasons for posting today, before the holidays come and i head out of town; one, of course, to wish you all a lovely couple of days, hopefully a nice break from work and a good fews meals. i baked pashka to bring to sam's house and am very excited at the prospect of sleeping in for a couple of days. secondly, though, i wanted to do a post dedicated to the lovelymiss kennedy holmes, who has not only a lovely blog but also a fantastic etsy shop. i recently was lucky enough to win a contest on the equally beautiful and charming erin of calivintage's blog, and the prize was a surprise vintage package from kennedy. i received it a couple of days ago and was completely taken with it: a vintage hatbox tied with yarn, topped of with a lula and filled to the brim with vintage goodies, including a slip, a beautiful beaded cardigan, pillbox fur hat, and two gorgeous purses, one containing two hairpieces and a necklace. i wear the necklace and cardigan here, and hold one of the purses; the rest is soon to come, as i looove it all. thanks erin and kennedy!

slip: vintage
skirt: gift from a friend, i shortened it (and now i can see the thread i left hanging, oops)
shoes: steve madden
belt: thrifted
necklace: kennedy holmes
cardigan: kennedy holmes

all right, i feel like an old lady but it's 10:27 and i can barely keep my eyes open. i'm going to close them, and my computer. until after the holiday - have a lovely weekend, safe travels to all!

ok, but just one

quick wedding-related post. when i was back in chicago i had a custom invitation side business that kept me pretty busy; i made mostly bar and bat mitzvah invitations, but dabbled in some wedding work. i love doing calligraphy and even then i could appreciate how special it is to be a part of someone's wedding. so i've been thinking i'd love to do the invitations myself, especially since i have plenty of time to do so, but then i found these, thanks to selena (she has a great blog too, check it out!)

they are from RIFLE design, whom, from the looks of things, is actually launching a wedding line on their shop any day now, so i may be in luck! what do you guys think - i'd love to design my own, but these seem pretty perfect. . .

mmm clothes

found these charming photos that manage to combine two of my greatest loves by katrin schacke via my friend margot's blog, pitch design union - i've mentioned her blog before but it's a must-read, her taste is spot-on and she is always digging up beautiful and charming design from all over.

marry me

so. . . i guess you have to be engaged to get engagement photos taken, right? i am completely infatuated with the pictures of max wanger. i stumbled upon his work multiple times this weekend, and with this combined with all the wedding stuff, it almost made me want to get married. almost. instead, i'll just continue to peruse his website and wipe away the occasional tear.

i am helping style a friend for her engagement photos this weekend; i've found my inspiration.

dancing with myself

i had the idea for this shirt on a cold and lonely day this winter. i'd bought these beautiful mint-colored leather gloves, then somehow lost one on the way home from the bar one night. (gee, i wonder how that happened.) i held onto the orphaned glove, hoping i'd think of something to do with it because i couldn't bear to throw it away. i'm not sure what gave me the idea to sew it onto the shirt like this - i think i was remembering how good it feels to have someone to lean against, with their hands resting on your hips, and i decided to make a shirt that looked like i was being snuggled. i carefully cut the glove in half and handstitched it onto this shirt. voila!

a friend of mine from high school rolled into town late last night and came over to crash on my couch, and we ended up going through 2 bottles of andré and a couple brooklyn lagers apiece, chatting until 3 am. so i woke up rather late this morning and decided, hell, it's friday, i've been wearing skirts all week, and today i'm going to take it easy on myself.

currently listening to the royal tenenbaums soundtrack. a recommend for today. man, bob dylan's wigwam is such a tough song because of the way the instruments swell up and you want to sing along so badly but there are no words except "ba da da dee dum." it's a daily struggle, folks.

AND! a huge, flattered thank-you to the sweet and lovely aDeLiNe, who bestowed an award upon me on her blog. i am pretty green when it comes to this stuff, truly, and it made my day. and to all the kind comments that have been coming in all week: i don't even have the words. you make me smile. you make me blush. so many thanks.

have a wonderful weekend, everyone! i'm off to central illinois (via chicago, just like the wilco song) tomorrow morning, so tonight is going to be a quiet one of packing and sleep.

must. have.

omjesus, just found these amazing rings via elyse holladay's fashion blog - I MUST HAVE THEM. the $50 price tag is a bit steep, but for someone who wears as much color as i do and could, for $50, have a ring to match them all - and scribble things in a pinch - it seems well worth it.

the future perfect, the site they're for sale on, has a ton of other cool things as well, including a chair made of those plastic balls found on mcdonalds' playgrounds and these amazing candleholders which were featured in ID magazine a year or so back.

and i did take ONE photo last night, of the moschino window as i walked by; i love it.

elinkan

i've been meaning to mention this girl for awhile: an impossibly cute swede who seems to live in a fairy tale. her photos are gorgeous, her outfits are adorable, she raises rabbits with her equally precious sister.

marni lovin'

i am not knowledgeable about labels, nor do i pretend to be. nor, really, do i want to be - since i've started paying more attention to other fashion blogs, i've started to see things i like and think, wow, that's cute, maybe i could find something by that designer i like! . . . and then experience [virtual] sticker shock when i find out that those shoes/that dress/these earrings are $900 or so. but i've seen two different blog posts mentioning the marni runway show, and i LOVED what i saw, so i had to check it out for myself.

i saw this first on glamorai's site - she made it into a nice little DIY, which i am attempting myself. this has meant scouring etsy and ebay for lots of brooches (and losing two bids on them in the process.) i'm hoping to make it out of work in time to stop in the salvation army before heading home to see what i can scrape together there.

i'm working on another DIY that i'll post soon. i'm having a sick day (wearing pajama shirt with some wide leg pants, verrry cozy) so no photos today.

i got them back

well, it took several days longer than it was supposed to, but my georgina goodmans are back and right where they belong: on my feet. i may never remove them. being soft leather, they molded to my feet long ago and wearing them feels like going barefoot, only better, because i could walk over hot coals with these babies and not feel a thing.

amanda richards, i don't know if i want to hug you, to throw several scarves around you and accessorize them with big, sloppy kisses - or hunt you down, put you in mom jeans and ugly sweaters and force you to watch lanvin catwalk shows and agnyess deyn montages. because that, my dear, is effectively what you have done to me. you showed me the glamorai and i am now powerless. do you know what i did until 1 am last night, amanda? i stayed up sewing baubles onto a cloth collar. tonight i am having friends over for fish tacos, and do you know what i would rather do? ransack my wardrobe for things to add ruffles to. okay, so i love you. and her. but jesus. if you don't know the glamorai, beware. she is highly addictive.

i've also decided that these myspace, pose-in-the-mirror shots are not acceptable. i'm going to do my best to take shots of myself without the aid of a mirror, but it will be difficult since i don't have 1. a cute hipster boyfriend to take my photo like the glamorai or 2. a huge mansion in the form of my parents' house in which to set up a camera like childhood flames. but dammit, i'll try.

detail of shirt:

shirt: hi-line (american apparel wannabes, from what i gather) beautifully destroyed thanks to childhood flames' tutorial, posted earlier
