dress daydreaming

i'm having some trouble deciding what sort of dress i want for my wedding. i'm 99% set on vintage, but it's so hard to find one that i love that's also the right size. i also can't decide between long and short. i guess deciding on what i want the wedding to be like would go a long way to helping me decide on a dress style, but even that's tough - do i want something more traditional, or just something fun, something that feels like me and sam? there's definitely a part of me that wants to wear a short, fun, vintage dress, maybe not even a white one, and walk down the aisle to a kinks song or something. but i don't know. there is a little, girly part of me that just wants a nice long dress that makes me feel beautiful, and a veil over my face, and a string quartet. anyway, here are some that have caught my eye.

all above are from all over etsy; i've lost track.

this one from sarah seven. she has such beautiful dresses, but i think most of them are too short for my family. . .

this one from posh girl vintage (obviously.)

**edit: and then part of me REALLY wants to say f it and do something like this:

hey, it's something blue, right?

to answer a couple questions i neglected in the last post: hi lizzie! i haven't chopped the dress apart yet - the only alteration so far has been to remove the ribbon thingie from the front. i honestly don't know what i'm doing with that dress. i hate how it looks on me but i so love how it looks on a hanger. still puzzling over that one.

robin: i used this baguette recipe. if you're going to use it for sandwiches, like i did, i'd spray it with water lightly rather than paint it on - mine was delicious but a bit too crusty for a banh mi. this is a handy recipe, though, because most baguettes take at least 24 hours to make, and these ones were ready within an afternoon.

more soon-

  6. Hey, Audrey! Thanks for answering my question about the yellow dress. It made my day seeing my name on your post! I'd also think twice about altering a dress that expensive. But sometimes, if I'm not happy when I wear it, it feels like the only way to go. :D

You've scouted some really nice dresses. I hope you consider that lovely blue dress from Posh Vintage. It's so you. If you're lucky enough to have family who isn't going to give you grief about not wearing white, why not go the fun route? :D

  9. Thank you for linking to the baguette recipe! Four ingredients = possibly doable for a baking amateur like me.

I can understand your traditional v. fun wedding dilemma. One of the most memorable weddings I went to was a DIY shindig in Brooklyn last year. The bride wore a blue cocktail-length dress with a vintage feel designed by a friend. Another friend made the cutest polka-dot tiered cake. And they served a Smoke Joint BBQ buffet complemented by different microbrews (the groom enjoys making his own beer) served in custom-made beer glasses that we still use to this day. We had a blast.

The good thing is: You can't really go wrong either way.

  10. Wear what makes you feel BEAUTIFUL. My own personal opinion is that the first is the prettiest of them all, and that's totally unbiased, since a narrow cut dress like that would look horrible on me. But looking at your outfit pictures, I think you would look great in it. But again, wear what you want, not what anyone else tells you to. White, blue, red, black, short, long, vintage, new; it doesn't matter. What matters is how it makes you feel. And that it doesn't cost a bajillion dollars of course!

  12. Have you looked into Claire Pettibone gowns? They are pretty pricey, but if you can get to one of Kleinfeld's "blowout" sales you could score a deal. I was really fortunate to find one, I'm in love with my dress: http://www.clairepettibone.com/bridal/?cp=gowns/chakra

They are all vintagy and gorgeous.

  13. to be honest, i don't like wedding dresses too much... but those you've short-listed are more fashionable, special... they're just gorgeous.

I love the first one and the last one (blue is fantastic for a wedding. a friend of mine wore blue and she's still married happily for about ten years!)

  14. I wore a long vintage-style dress from, believe it or not, Davids Bridal. I also wore vintage jewelry. I thought it was a good tie between my vintage style and my husband's modern style.
