bang bang

so, last friday i decided i was bored with my hair, and it hadn't been touched by scissors in almost a year, so i made a phone call and scheduled a cut for that day. i have this fantasy of getting married with hair that is at least long enough to pull over one shoulder; it is truly pathetic how often i dream of waking up with hair about six inches longer than it is currently. really, subconscious? that's the best you can do for me? and as much as i hate to be that girl that is thinking about her freaking wedding day hairstyle a year in advance, it seems i am that girl, so i told anya (the sweet russian girl who chopped it) not to take off any length. she snipped away for about 40 minutes, and even took the time to diffuse my hair (something i never bother with - if i leave my hair to air dry, it curls itself -) and i happily paid her and went home. upon closer inspection, though, i couldn't really tell it had been cut. it looked. . .cleaner, maybe? but you'd never know i'd paid to have it cut unless i'd told you. so after a few days of hemming and hawing, i showed back up today and asked her to cut me some bangs. so there you go. i got a haircut. now you can tell.

this shirt, from quail, is one of my all-time favorites. unfortunately, last summer, while out of town and sautéing some onions in butter, a bit of oil leapt onto the shirt and i knew i didn't have time to get it to a dry cleaner, so i made the fatal mistake of washing it. even without putting it in the dryer, it shrunk up and warped a bit, so i'm left with a top that fits a little odd and is about 2 inches shorter than i'd like. so today i decided to do something about it, and sewed some vintage lace to the bottom, for modesty's sake.

tomorrow is friday (for me,) then friday night i have a show to attend, then saturday morning i'm off to california for a week of relaxing with my family (sam included.) i'll bring my computer and try to be better about posting - i'll have no excuse! - as i have many photos and recipes to catch up on.

until then

tetris

feeling flushed with a great love of my country (aka my tax return) yesterday, i skipped from work to the anthropologie around the corner. for some reason the store was packed, and the dressing room line was out of control; so i hunted down this skirt and slipped it on over my dress. it fit (although after wearing it this morning, i think i'm going to have to take it in a bit - it sits lower on my waist than i'd like it to) so i took it upstairs, bought it, and decided to have a nice, quiet, night of audrey. i try to treat myself to one of these every once in awhile, since my life is so busy and i am almost always surrounded by people one place or another. i bought a book and walked to the momofuku milk bar, a place i've been dying to try since it was just a "coming soon" blurb on new york magazine's website. anyone who knows me knows that i am a milk FIEND. i crave it the way heroin addicts crave a fix. this is no joke. i have been known to wake up at 3 am, craving milk so hard that i will walk blocks to an open grocery store and chug a half gallon in the aisle. i'm not sure what it means, but i am sure i must have some strong bones.

i had pork buns, pistachio lemon curd cake, and a tall glass of organic whole milk. it was incredible and relatively inexpensive. afterwards, i headed home with my book and read until i fell asleep, nice and early, and had bizarre and scary dreams about the ten plagues taking place in our kitchen at school.

our phone lines at work are messed up and so i am temporarily relieved of my receptionist duties, as all our calls get forwarded to the chicago office. it is oddly quiet in here (well, unless you count the crystal castles blaring over the speakers in the pit. silent of phones ringing, anyway.)

hope everyone has a lovely wednesday. . .

tuesday evening DIY

good morning! i took a quiet night to myself last night and did a little bit of sewing. i'm actually really bummed because i had wanted to post a DIY - i had the idea to make skirts from a couple of sack dresses i never wear, and i made them and they turned out pretty well (i'm wearing one today,) but i realized once i got home that i had left my camera at work. so, no how-to today, but i'll try to do another this weekend and post that.

planning a trip to portland in a month! i haven't ever been and am soo excited to get out of new york city for a few days. if anyone has any suggestions as to anywhere i should go or anything to do, i'd love to hear it. (amy, don't worry, we'll talk.)

class tonight and then coming home and maybe doing a little more sewing. once i have a couple of successful projects it's all i want to do.
